SC Concealed Weapons Permit (CWP)

Purpose

To become knowledgeable about current firearms statistics, basic firearms safety, handgun and ammunition construction, identification, storage and operation, basic shooting fundamentals, range commands and most importantly, South Carolina CWP laws and the use of deadly force, as the state requires to qualify for a concealed weapons permit.

8 to 10 hours

Equipment Needed

Valid South Carolina Driver’s License or South Carolina State Identification Card, A firearm**, 50 rounds of ammunition, standard hip holster specific to that firearm and belt, and eye and ear protection***

*Application is valid for 3 years after course completion and cannot be submitted until age 21
**Firearm rentals (which include appropriate hip holster) available
***Eye and ear protection available for a minimal fee

Activities Involved

A state mandated class session to cover basic firearms safety, handgun and ammunition construction, identification, storage and operation, basic shooting fundamentals, range commands and most importantly, South Carolina CWP laws and the use of deadly force. At the end of the classroom session, the state CWP written exam is administered. Additionally, the SC CWP paperwork, range exam and fingerprinting will be conducted during this course, as required by SLED.
